Parking and match information for Guildford Chess Club

Guildford Chess Club normally expects to play home matches in the Assembly Room on the first floor at the Guildford Institute, but please note there is now a new entrance about 10m to right of the old one that is no longer in use. You can either go up the new stairs or up the new lift and then the Assembly room will be on the right. The venue is now fully accessible for wheelchair users, including a disabled toilet on the ground floor

The nearest public car park is the multi-storey in Leapale Rd (parallel to Ward St but 2 roads lower down North St, 1-way towards North St). Also from 18:00 parking is free in most parking bays (except resident only bays) in Ward Street and adjacent roads or on single yellow lines. In North Street there is a £1 evening charge in the off-street parking bays

Note that traffic in town is likely to be busier on Thursday evenings when a few matches are played, than on the usual Monday Club night. Note also that parking bays are not available in North Street on Thursdays because of setting up Friday's market

There are several eateries in North St and roads off North Street

Guildford players usually offer to buy their opponent a tea or coffee, although visitors can of course also buy (and pay for) their own at any time until the caretaker shuts up the serving hatch, typically sometime around 21:00
