19 August 2008 The games which won the 2008 SCCA Best Game Prizes are now on-line (see link on the left)

22 July 2008: At the SCCA 125 year celebration on 20th July, the Open Section was won by Graeme Buckley (4½/5) with grading prizes to Robin Haldane (U175, 4/5) and Simon Wrigley (U150, 3½/5). The U125 Section was won by Tony Bynnersley (5/5) with grading prizes to Edward Tandi (U100, 3/5) and Paul Collis (U75, 3½/5). Following the buffet, the quiz was won by "The Wallies" from Wallington. John Saunders, editor of British Chess Magazine took numerous photographs of the event and has kindly made them available here

12 July 2008: The SCCA Annual Finance Meeting and Annual League Composition Meeting will take place at 7.45pm (change of time from the original announcement) on Wednesday 27th August in the Follett Hall, United Reformed Church, 53 West St, Dorking, RH4 1BS. 6 July 2008: The U175 team won their final against Essex at Leicester by 8½-7½. For detailed results click here

27 June 2008: The entry form for the SCCA 125 year celebration on Sunday 20th July is now available in PDF format here

16 June 2008: Despite defaulting on the bottom board, the U175 team won their semi-final against Yorkshire at Syston by 10-6. In other semi-finals the Open team lost 6½-9½ to Lancashire and the U100 team lost 5½-6½ to Nottinghamshire at Bicester after a dispute concerning the bottom board, see here

4 June 2008: The SCCA 125 year celebration forms are now available from club secretaries. The celebrations on Sunday 20th July at the Ashtead Peace Memorial Hall, Woodfield Lane, Ashtead, KT21 2BE will consist of 3 events. There will be a 5 round Swiss rapidplay (25 mins per player per game, with a prize fund of £350) at 12.50pm, followed by a buffet at 6.30pm and a quiz night at 7.30pm. People can attend any or all of the events for the same price of £12.50

2 June 2008: The tables for the 2008 individual competitions are now on-line and will be updated as results become available (see link on the left)

1 June 2008: The final results for the 2007/8 team competitions are now available (see link on the left)

19 May 2008: The U100 team's opponents in the semi-final are Nottinghamshire, who beat Lancashire 8-4. Latest county results are on the SCCU website (see the link on the left)

18 May 2008: The U100 team beat Norfolk 10½-1½ (no games lost) on 17th May in the knockout stage and are now through to the semi-finals for the second year running

16 May 2008: The Open team beat Warwickshire 10½-5½ on 10th May and will play either Lancashire or Staffordshire in the national semi-finals on 14th June

16 May 2008: The U175 team are through to play Yorkshire in the semi-finals, the match to be played on 15th June

April 2008: We regret to announce the death of John Dunleavy, a Life Vice President of the Association

April 2008: Surrey successfully defended the John Philpott Trophy when they won the SCCU U135 jamboree on Sunday March 30th

April 2008: In county chess competitions the Open and U175 teams have come second in their sections and are progressing to the national stages. The U100 team won their section and are therefore the new holders of the Harry Woolverton Cup. They will also progress to the national stages of the county competition.
